# How credits work

## The unit

One credit = one rendered row, whatever the format. A 1,431-row batch costs 1,431 credits.

## Free previews

The first three rows of a batch render free so you can see real output before paying. Up to 200 free preview renders per account per day.

## The quote

Before any batch you see (or request, via the API) a quote: rows, credits needed, your balance, the output size. Quoting has no side effects.

## Short on credits

The batch is refused with the exact numbers: credits needed, your balance, how many rows you could render now, and the top-up that covers the rest. Two ways forward: render the affordable rows, or [top up](/docs/credits/top-up) and submit unchanged.
